Hi.  I am a one year old male German Shepherd and my name is Blitz.   The German translation for lightning is Blitz.  When I first came to live with my foster mom I was fast, very fast...quick as lightning.   So, Blitz I am.

Like most German Shepherds, I am very much a velcro dog.  I want to be around my people.  I don't want to be outside by myself.

I love to play with anyone who will play with me.  After all, I am a puppy.  If you throw the ball, I will go get it.  But, I won't bring it back..no one has taught that to me....yet.  Sometimes, I get the puppy crazies..that is when I run around like a crazy dog...running very fast, up the hill, down the hill, around in circles...usually I like to have a toy in my mouth.  It makes my foster mom smile to see me running and having fun.

And in typical German Shepherd fashion, I am very eager to learn.  I am learning to sit.  To go down.  To get up from the down.  To shake.  My foster mom is teaching me to "get closer"..she tells me to sit, then she says "closer" and I have to come and sit closer to her.  I love to do all these things...because she gives me treats...I loooove treats.  She is also trying to use hand signals with the verbal commands.

Walking is something I love to do.  In the mornings, before work, my mom will take me for a short walk.  Everytime she stops, she makes me sit.  I don't pull too much, but I do like to sniff the ground.  In the evenings, she will take me for a longer walk.  I would love a jogging buddy, that would be a lot of fun.

When my foster mom goes to work, she puts me in my crate.  She will get some kibble, tell me to go to "my room"..and just like the wind...I go to my room.  At night I am also crated, but that's ok, I don't mind.  I sleep all night with no problems.  I have had no "accidents" in the house..not one.  She has a bell on the door knob and when she takes me outside, she takes my nose to hit the bell..teaching me to ring the bell and someone will open the door.  Pretty cool idea.

I have played with an 8 year old little girl and we get along fine.  But I do jump on her...and if she is on the floor, I am all in her face, wanting to play.  So little children might be not very good for me.  There is another GSD here with me.  She is an older dog, and she doesn't want to play with me.  And there have been no problems between us.  We don't growl at each other or show any teeth.  I just want to plaaaaay.

I can be very loving.  When all is quiet, and I settle down, I love to be petted. It sort of puts me in a daze. Sometimes I will just come to you and lay my head on your lap.

I am your typical one year old German Shepherd puppy.   I am working on my manners as no
one had ever taught me any before I came to live with my foster mom.  For a whole year, I had been left alone to occupy myself, with very little human contact.  Because of this lack of human interaction, I had developed few bad manners that my mom is correcting.  In my excitement I sometimes forget not to jump on people.  Where I came from, no one ever stayed with me very long, so I got attention any way I could.  My foster mom calls me an over-zealous greeter. (smile)  I am also a chewer but what puppy isn’t? (wink)   My foster mom has bought me several hard toys to chew on....so when I go to chew on something I shouldn't, she will then refocus me to something I can chew on.

But..on the plus side, all my bad habits are correctable...with training, patience and love.

My foster mom says, I have the potential to become a top notch family dog, the ideal German Shepherd companion.  I just really need a person who will work with me, to train me to be a part of their family.  Someone who will make me a priority in their life.

If you are looking for a dog that is fun, smart, loyal.... and if I may say so myself … has stunning good looks....a dog that will be your heart dog...please consider me!

I am waiting to be your best friend,

Blitz
