2001 - 2008

Riggs lost his hard fought battle against chronic renal failure on July 25th. Although his body finally succumbed to his failing organs after 7 months with us, his mind and spirit never did. That, I think, was the hardest part. Riggs spend everyday just happy to be with his foster family, happy to carry around his special stuffed animals and to play fetch outside. He didn't understand that anything was wrong with him and he didn't act sick which is unusual for kidney failure. His vets were amazed at his physical appearance and attitude in comparison to worsening blood results. We knew the day he finally acted sick would be the day he left us and that proved true. Riggs embodied what a German Shepherd should be...brave, loyal, stoic and beautiful. He will be missed by the entire rescue and most especially his foster family who loved him as one of their own and who's personal dogs are lost without Riggs's big goofy self running through the house with his ball.
